Eastside Park Loft – A Striking Construction Project From Frankfurt

In this article we introduce a mixed use building in the east harbor of Frankfurt. Originally it was intended as a factory. However, due to historical circumstances, it has never been used as such. Rather, it was used as a hospital and later as accommodation for workers. The task was to renovate this historic building and supplement it with a modern section before the”1100 Architects”architectural company. The original volume should be reached. The development of the project was preceded by a careful exploration of the existing structure. The new building was completed in 2015, a century later. The modern part of the project mainly concerned the facade design and the interior of the loft apartments.

Traditional concept – modern loft architecture and facade design

The new building”translates”the original concept into the formal language of modern loft architecture and modern façade design. As is generally the case with lofts, one must adequately create a connection between”old”and”new”.

The new part of the building has interpreted the volume, rhythm and proportions of the original in a contemporary way. So the form language of the historical building has been reproduced with modern forms and materials. This is particularly evident in the façade design and the design of the loft apartments inside.

Such architecture certainly brings added value to the cityscape

The modern facade design

The modern façade was inspired by the original mansard roof. It was interpreted as a continuous shell. All surfaces are clad in cement fiber boards. Colored window reveals serve as highlights and accents. The panels are tilted and reflect the light. This creates many visual nuances. As you walk around the building, it always appears in a different way. Modern in character and form, this architecture has a striking influence on the modern style of this Frankfurt district.
