City Gallery design in Brazil by Tacoa Arquitetos
Adriana Varejão Gallery, which is located in Brumadinho, Minas Gerais, Brazil, was designed by the Tacoa Arquitetos .
The Gallery became the Inhotim to show Centre for contemporary art in the period 2004-2008 added whose purpose is, from Rio de Janeiro, local art.
The exterior of the Gallery – water system
“Inhotim Center for contemporary art is located in Brumadinho, a village near the city of Belo Horizonte, the capital city of the province of Minas Gerais.” Presenting a personal initiative by the mining entrepreneur Bernardo Paz, the Museum has an extraordinary architectural concept. Instead of exhibiting all installations in a single building, it consists of several pavilions, which are spread over an area of about 35 hectares.
The ground floor of the building
Adriana Varejão Gallery was commissioned with the task to preserve two works that were acquired and exhibited by the Cartier Foundation of the Museum: the sculpture Linda do Rosário and the Polypychon Celacanto Provoca square remoto (with the further development of the project the artist more four works for this museum building created).
Exotic environment – wildlife
The project is (typical of the topography for Minas Gerais, which consists of old and pleasant hills) located on a slope, which is partially surrounded by the forest. The original topography has been converted for new use: large shifts of Earth have cut off this area, to create a large horizontal plane for the new use.
Striking minimalist – large plates
The orientation of the project achieved to reassemble the original topography of the site, and to insert an artificial element in this: a regular block of reinforced concrete (the manufacture of prestressed concrete was unnecessary), partly in the Hill area is integrated. The structure of the building consists of an irregular dam, which gains space on the ground floor and get a Lotof the block. Do this by two carriers and in the Middle by four pillars, which are integrated into the wall in the deep areas.
Building structure consists of concrete dams
The building was designed as a a helical structure, which combines two different levels in the Park and alternates between moments of shortening/passage and extension/exhibition: carved in the middle of the water up from the ground floor, (first shortening), in a narrow promenade, far from the building, (second extension: the play of Varejão panacea Phantastica, a tiled bench with paintings of hallucinatory plants) of the small square of the ground floor; (Third reduction) The promenade returns to the building; (Fourth extension: the sculpture of Linda do Rosário and the painting of the collector) Ground floor, in the hills, under the concrete block; (Fifth shortening) The stairs; (Sixth renewal, the polyptych Celacanto provoca Mare MOTO) The first walkway in the concrete block; (Seventh shortening) The ramp; (Eighth extension: other tile bench, now with paintings of birds, Passarinhos-from Inhotim to de mini) The terrace above the concrete block; (Ninth shortening) The bridge. And vice versa.”
