Finally summer has arrived. The time to ride a bike, lie by the lake or just have a barbecue in the garden with friends. It is important not to forget the drinking, so that our body has enough liquid for all the fun activities. And we Germans are pretty good in it: every German drinks 142 liters of bottled water annually. The total population is 11.5 billion liters of bottled water. Since it is usually difficult to imagine such a mass: thus the Olympiastadion in Berlin 9x can be filled. With this consumption pattern, we are second in Europe and even fourth in the world. So we drink enough water, the problem lies in the packaging, the plastic bottle.
Drinking tap water is healthier than water from PET
Alone in Germany 32 billion plastic bottles are used every day and unfortunately only the least thoughts about what happens with the bottle when it is empty are at least. You can not really take any evil. Germany is the world champion of recycling. 93% of all PET bottles are recycled.
The fact that this is unfortunately not the solution is communicated far too little. Only 25% are used for the production of new bottles. The rest is shredded and processed into inferior plastic. This results in garden chairs or plastic bags, which are not recycled. In order to at least oppose the enormous consumption of plastic bags, 240 companies have joined together in 2016 and their shopping bags have been paid for. This is a good start. But actually it is much easier to live environmentally conscious, which is usually even more cost-saving. The answer is to drink tap water.
If desired, you can even filter tap water
In Germany, we are very lucky to have access to clean tap water. Always and everywhere. Tap water is more strictly controlled than bottled water and thus has a better quality. The check takes place at the moment when the water comes out of the tap. When the water is filled, the check takes place before it is filled into the bottle. This means that all contaminants that are added afterwards are not taken into account during the quality check. Tap water costs 250x less than bottled water. Thus, while actively saving money, one helps to prevent the fact that in 2050 we do not have more plastic in the sea than fish. Because we are on this path. Nearly every day, 22,000 tons of plastic in the oceans end up poisoning not only our environment but ultimately our own.
