Sewing box cabinet design vonKiki van Eijk – original and remarkable
Dutch design week: the designer Kiki van Eijk represents a cabinet that opens like a gigantic sewing box. The piece was exhibited in their Studio during the Dutch design week. The Cabinet was made by a carpenter in Arnhem from elm and includes buttons that are cased in solid brass. The mechanism is supported by shaped springs.

“I wanted to have the alternative feel of this Old School sewing box, and I wanted to in any case, it will be opened by two people or that there is a motor inside, because thats something electronic and it really doesn’t fit to the idea.” That says van Eijk and adds that the project on the basis of the mechanisms inside, that are so tricky, developed for all four years was.
When you pull in one direction, the whole structure despite its weight, without the help of a motor and electronic elements opens.
